The Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley has successfully obtained funding from Lotterywest for the development of an All-Abilities Playground at Celebrity Tree Park. This exciting project aims to create an inclusive and accessible play space that caters to people of all ages and abilities.

    The project's Detailed Design is expected to be 85 percent complete in early March.

    Construction is set to commence in May 2025, with completion expected by October 2025. In the meantime, the contractor is reviewing and costing some variations based on valuable stakeholder engagement and feedback.

    The development of the All-Abilities Playground at Celebrity Tree Park is moving forward.

    The Shire awarded the contract for the design and construction of the All-Abilities Playground to Nature Play Solutions for the sum of $3,591,000.

    Nature Play Solutions has delivered the first 60% of the project design, with input from key stakeholders including the Shire’s Disability Access and Inclusion Committee and local primary and secondary school children.

    The design is currently under review by the Project Team to ensure it aligns with the community's needs and expectations and will be finalised in the new year.

    Construction is planned to begin in May 2025 with the grand opening set for November 2025.

    The Shire is excited to announce that it has secured an additional $1.55 million in funding from LotteryWest, bringing the final project budget to an impressive $3.6 million, including contributions from the Shire.

    This significant boost in funding will enable the Shire to move forward with the development of a state-of-the-art All Abilities Playground, a project that promises to provide an inclusive and engaging play space for all community members. The Shire is in the final stages of contract negotiations with a highly reputable contractor, known for their extensive experience in constructing All Abilities Playgrounds.

    “We are thrilled to have secured this additional funding from LotteryWest,” said Shire President, David Menzel, “This project is a major step towards creating a more inclusive community, and we are excited to see it come to fruition.”

    The contract for the playground development is expected to be awarded by the end of this month. Once the contract is in place, the contractor will begin the detailed design process, engage with stakeholders, and commence manufacturing the playground equipment. Construction is scheduled to begin after the wet season, ensuring optimal conditions for the build.
