@Leisure Planners have been appointed by the Shire of Wyndham-East Kimberley to prepare a recreation and events strategy. This strategy will provide a clear direction for future investment in and development of Shire-managed sporting facilities. It will also investigate opportunities to enable dual-purpose use of facilities for both recreation and events.

This project will:

  • Guide how Council allocates funds to projects and the master planning of specific recreation sites
  • Prioritise necessary upgrades to facilities based on community need
  • Identify the best multi-purpose event space
  • Determine sources of funding for recommended facility improvements

The consultation phase has been completed with the Shire receiving 82 surveys from the community on the Shire website.

@Leisure Planners contacted over 80 organisations and key people resulting in 49 one-on-one responses.

A workshop was held with Councillors in August to gain their thoughts and input. In total there were 159 contacts.

The information from this phase has been delivered to the Shire as part of the ‘Demand and Consultation Findings Report’.

The Shire is currently reviewing the first draft of the Strategy.
