Landside Piling started and Pontoon Fabrication well underway

11 June 2026

Works on site are progressing well, with site establishment now complete. This includes mobilisation of the piling hammer and power pack, work boat, containers, skid steer, temporary fencing, and other smaller plant and equipment.

The contractor commenced piling and splicing works during this swing, successfully driving the first two 24 m pile sections into the seabed. Additional 12 m pile sections have since been splice-welded in situ, tested, and are scheduled to be driven to final depth in the coming week.

Production of the pre-cast boat ramp panels is also progressing well. Fabrication moulds have been completed, with the first batch of panels scheduled for concrete pouring and curing this week.

Demolition works continue to advance, with the first 17 pontoons and five piles now removed, bringing overall demolition progress to approximately 80%. The removed pontoons will be offered for disposal through an Expressions of Interest process via the SWEK website, with further details to be released shortly.

Fun Fact: Splicing two pile sections together requires more than 20 weld passes around the full circumference of the joint. Each weld is quality assured using magnetic particle testing to detect surface and near-surface cracking, as well as ultrasonic testing to identify internal defects such as lack of fusion, inclusions, and voids.
